I attribute it mostly to all of your great ideas. It's always so easy to do cutesy things for the girls but harder to get creative for boys. I love the idea of making the blocks each year for the boys. I also made them for our leaders. I had them set up on their own table with a big lantern in the background. The boys loved going to find theirs. The fires and place settings were all the rave. My blue and gold banner was so long that, after attaching it to the basketball hoop, it still went farther than halfway down the gym. I don't think we have a no climbing ladder policy. I attached the ends to the walls that were like bulletin boards. I blew up the block pictures and made some posters for the walls to help with the atmosphere. We too did a potato bar and a sundae bar. It was yummy! Thank-you, Thank-you for your ideas and your willingness to share.jillybeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12818220998776726505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-701812027455701320.post-24104204048986215392012-02-19T10:55:08.949-08:002012-02-19T10:55:08.949-08:00I love your cubes! One year we ate pulled pork sandwiches, the next we had hot dogs { we just had a grill or two brought by parents and grilled them}. We always have almost no budget, so we supplied the meat/hot dogs and the dessert, but had families bring side dishes like veggies and chips. This year we did a potato bar. We baked the potatoes and supplied the cake/cake pops, then had the families assigned a certain topping to bring.

For activities, I am at a loss at remembering, so I will just tell you what I think would be fun :0) We were going to have a relay race to set up tents. That didn't work out in the end, but it would still be fun if you have two of the same, relatively easy to assemble, relay races. You can have a smore tower building contest. Use grahm crackers and marshmallows to build, give the boys like three minutes or whatever, and see who can build the tallest structure. The relay race idea can work really well. Have fishing boots, flannel shirt, hiking backpack, and grab like a tackle box and fishing pole or something, then run to the other side of the gym, take it all off, and have the next teammate do it all.

Games like horseshoes, ladder toss {like shown here: http://www.outdoorgameplayers.com/outdoor-games-list/ladder-toss-ladder-ball-monkey-balls/ } could be really fun for the boys. You could do a raingutter regatta. So many fun ideas. Go ahead and email me if you would like more help. My email is vanessa.cam5@gmail.com. I would love help!!!

Thanks for your questions :0)
Vanessakraftenkrazy3https://www.blogger.com/profile/13387095867225402968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-701812027455701320.post-69927152022808000302012-02-08T12:48:52.804-08:002012-02-08T12:48:52.804-08:00My head is spinning- what awesome centerpieces! You can get about 16 out of one 4x4x8foot board. One board runs you about $8, making each cube about $.50 for the wood. We have done these every year and plan to make them again this year. You can find the printables here:

http://sewcakemake.blogspot.com/2011/01/blue-and-gold-prep.html

Or you can email me for the files.
